The Guiles on 9/11

"I'm a retired Major from the US Army, I also served in the Marine Corps.  At the time of 9/11 I was still working for the government, I was a linguist, meaning that I interpreted documents to be used by the United States government. My wife Kathy and I decided to take a lunch together that day and we were just pulling in to the Los Hermanos parking lot, the one in Lindon, when we heard about the terrorist attacks. We decided to forgo lunch and headed straight to my unit to see if I was going to be deployed."

These are my parents, Dan and Kathy Guile. My dad has been in the military for longer than I've been alive. I was a freshman at Provo High in 2001 and all I could think of during the 9/11 attacks was if my father and brothers were going to be deployed. My dad started training really hard in hopes that he would be deployed but he ended up breaking his hip. Its weird to think about how thankful I was for a broken bone.
